In the afternoon of April 18th, the 3rd International Cultural Festival of our University was inaugurated by the Deqing Lake, East campus. President Zhang Liqin, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee Jiang Yunliang, Director of Publicity Department and member of CPC Committee Du Ning attended the ceremony. The persons in charge of relevant department including Youth League Committee, Students' Affairs Office, Security Office, Foreign Affairs Office, International College and others, and all the students and teachers from International College attended the ceremony.
Among the warm cheers of the students, Zhang Liqin announced that the 3rd International Cultural Festival was officially inaugurated.
Yunliang Jiang gave the opening speech. He said, "this is the year of the 60th Anniversary of Higher Education and the 102nd Anniversary of the Founding of Huzhou University. Based on the strong tradition of running a university and the distinct geographical advantages of Huzhou, the international construction has achieved remarkable results. The Confucius Institute has been officially launched, and the Chinese-foreign cooperative project on education has been successfully approved by the Ministry of Education. International academic exchange and cooperation have reached a new level, and the education of international students has achieved "transformation and upgrading". The Cross-cultural Research Center was established, and we have signed inter-school cooperation agreements with nearly 50 universities in the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, Russia and Ukraine, etc. The international layout is getting better and better. He showed that we would adhere the theme of "smiling service, understanding and caring, high-quality teaching and colorful life" to create a high-quality environment for international students.
The person in charge of the Business College, as the representative of the secondary school, said that "the exchanges between different nations and countries are increasing nowadays. The interdependence between each other is deepening, and a multicultural era is coming towards us." Sophia from Kazakhstan, as a representative of the international students, expressed her love for China and Huzhou University and the good feelings of studying life at university in fluent Chinese, who also congratulated the 60th anniversary birthday of the university as well.
Then, the opening performance brought by the Chinese and international students begun. International students from Russia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and more than 20 countries wore their national clothes on the stage, which quickly attracted the eyes of all the audiences; the students from Russia performed a vibrant dance which brought out admiration from the audience; the students from Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia showed African national dance and African drums which brought an audio-visual feast to the audience; and the national dance and song played by students from Bangladesh also gave us a different cultural experience.
This is the key year for "13th Five-Year plan" of our university, and it is also a new period of the vigorous development of our education internationalization process. Up to now, more than 570 students from more than 40 countries have been admitted to our university, of which more than 70% are students with major studying. In the daily management and teaching management of international students, the system is constantly perfected and the brand is created to make the work of the international students in our university be more standardized and orderly.
This year's International Cultural Festival had the largest number of international students, pavilions and abundant activities, which was also the most memorable one.
As one of the celebrations of anniversary of our university, the international cultural festival with the theme of "Centenary HU, Join As One Family" will launcha series of activities with rich contents and various forms, such as traditional cultural experience week, innovation and entrepreneurship competition season for international students, Chinese Bridge competition, football friendly competition and basketball friendly competition, showing diverse culture of international students in all directions, creating a strong atmosphere of campus internationalization and offering a magnificent tribute to the anniversary of Huzhou University.
