From October 28 to November 4, the education investigation delegation of our university led by vice-president Qian Kunfang visited University of Waterloo in Canada and Woosong University in Korea. Warm welcome and reception was given to our investigation delegation during the visit. Topics including scientific research, talent training, academic exchange and studying visits of students and teachers had been discussed, during when the delegation also signed an cooperation agreement with Woosong University.
During the visit in Canada, representatives of University of Waterloo introduced the history and construction of school, geographic position and academic settings. Both sides wished to develop cooperation and exchange based on the short-term student projects. University of Waterloo expressed that they would accept vice-president Qian’s invitation to visit our school.
During the Korean visit, the vice-president of Woosong University warmly welcomed our investigation delegation and introduced school’s history and institution setting. Both sides discussed about cultivating mode of 1.5+2+0.5 and 2+2 and the postgraduates’ projects of 3+2 and 1+1 in-depth. Both sides wished to expand studying visit and exchange of students and teachers. International cooperation agreement was signed by both sides as well. The representatives also accompanied our delegation on a visit to the building of SolBridge International Business School and student dormitories. After the conference, our delegation tasted Korean food made by culinary major students.
The University of Waterloo was established in 1959 and became a renowned school in Canada, which is one of the fastest-developing schools in Canada. The Waterloo is famous for export-oriented and cooperative education projects worldwide, emphasizing the combination of course materials and practical work. Their majors of Accounting and Financial Management, Actuarial Studies Remote Sensing of Environment, Engineering Science and Computer Science are at the forefront in Canada. The Woosong University is a characterized private university. It was awarded the most excellent school in Korea in 2013. The students of SolBridge came from 37 countries and it is the first school that teaches in 100% English and fully employs foreigner professors in Korea.
This visit was an important milestone in our international strategies. Through this visit we have strengthened the relationship and cooperation with these two universities and became more influential internationally. It also sets an example for our university to cooperate with other colleges and universities in the future.
